Best Student Paper Award Winners
The Canadian Science and Technology Historical Association / Association pour l’histoire de la science et de la technologie is pleased to announce the winners of the 2009 Student Paper Award competition.
Delia Gavrus, a doctoral student at the Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology at the University of Toronto, has been awarded the Royal Society of Canada Student Paper Award for her paper, “Envisioning Cyclopropane at the University of Toronto: From Scientific Production to Medical Technology, 1925-1940.” Michelle Hoffman, also a doctoral student at the Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology, won the CSTHA-AHSTC Student Paper Award for her paper, “Constructing School Science: Physics, Biology, and Chemistry Education in Quebec and Ontario Secondary Schools, 1884-1965.”
The recipients of the Royal Society of Canada Student Paper Award of $500.00, provided by the Royal Society of Canada, and the CSTHA-AHSTC Student Paper Award of $250.00 were selected by a panel of judges who evaluated presentations of papers by students attending the Association’s biennial conference held in Quebec City. As a means of promoting research on scientific and technical history in Canada, the Association is pleased to encourage the initiative of young scholars through its student paper awards competition. The Association extends congratulations to both Ms. Gavros and Ms. Hoffman and best wishes for further research achievements.

Récipiendaires des prix de mérite pour les meilleures communications étudiantes
The Canadian Science and Technology Historical Association / L’Association pour l’histoire de la science et de la technologie (CSTHA-AHSTC) a le plaisir d’annoncer les noms des récipiendaires de l’édition 2009 du concours des communications étudiantes.
Étudiante de troisième cycle au Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology de l’Université de Toronto, Delia Gavrus reçoit le prix de mérite de la Société royale du Canada pour son article Envisioning Cyclopropane at the University of Toronto: From Scientific Production to Medical Technology, 1925-1940. Sa collègue du même établissement, Michelle Hoffman, reçoit le prix de mérite de l’AHSTC pour son article Constructing School Science: Physics, Biology, and Chemistry Education in Quebec and Ontario Secondary Schools, 1884-1965.
Les récipiendaires du prix de mérite de la meilleure communication étudiante de la Société royale du Canada, au montant de 500 $, et du prix de mérite de 250 $ de l’AHSTC ont été retenues par le jury parmi les articles présentés par les étudiants lors de la conférence biennale de l’Association à Québec. Dans le but de promouvoir la recherche sur l’histoire de la science et de la technologie au Canada, l’Association est heureuse d’encourager l’initiative de jeunes chercheurs grâce à ses prix de mérite pour les meilleures communications étudiantes. L’Association félicite madame Gavros et madame Hoffman et leur offre ses meilleurs voeux dans la poursuite de leur recherche.
