Most of us have been frustrated by the necessary public heath response to the Pandemic, both in our personal lives but also in our scholarly efforts. I especially miss the opportunity to delve into the archives, whether at my hometown University of Toronto or at Quebec City’s Musée de l’Amérique française, or at …. But that’s another story.
In the meantime, we do have a wealth of online History of Science resources and events. This includes the annual congress of the Geological Association of Canada (GAC-MAC 2021), which will, at the very least, be held in a fully virtual version, and possibly even in a mixed (in-person/virtual) form. For example, there’s talk of using large outdoor tents for some lectures.
If you’ve looked at the GAC-MAC 2021 website, you can see that there is a large range of proposed sessions, including the one sponsored by our Canadian Science and Technology Historical Association (CSTHA): “History of Geosciences in Canada”. (Please see the the previous post for a detailed description.)
If you would like to present a paper, we’re getting quite close to the abstract submission deadline, Monday, January 18, 2021. Be forewarned, if you wait until the 18th to submit, you might get stuck in an electronic traffic jam!
Happy New Year!
